National Instruments NI-9870E RS-232 Serial Module

The NI 9870E Serial Module has four individual RS232 DTE ports that are separated from the other modules in the system. All ports are completely compatible with the ANSI/EIA/TIA-232 requirements. For connections, there are four RJ-50 receptacles that can be linked to four RS-232 instruments. The user can utilize a cable that modifies the RJ-50 pinout to the regular National Instruments pinout on a DB-9 male connector. This pinout can be referenced in the user manual for the NI-9870E.

An external power supply should be joined to this National Instruments RS-232 Serial Module. The power supply delivers the power for the RS-232 transceivers on the NI 9870E Serial Module. The user can utilize a four-position pigtail to link to an external voltage foundation. The connections between an external voltage foundation of +8 V to +28 V and the module include: VSUP, a second VSUP, COM, and another COM connection.

An optional y-adapter can additionally be utilized with the NI-9870E. With the y-adapter, the user can link power to several modules at once with one power source. A single y-adapter is required for every module added. The user should make sure that the power supply can withstand the highest power requirements for every connected module. Also, the user should keep in mind that connections should all be completed prior to applying power. The NI 9870E RS-232 Serial Module supports a low-power sleep mode. However, this mode is only supported at the system level for certain chassis.
