National Instruments sbRIO-9862 C Series CAN Interface Module

The sbRIO-9862 is a C Series High-Speed, Flexible Data-Rate Controller Area Network Interface Module designed by National Instruments. The NI sbRIO-9862 module comes with the part number 785963-01. The sbRIO-9862 C Series CAN Interface Module is a non-enclosed module intended for OEM applications and is compatible with CompactRIO hardware. The NI sbRIO-9862 module features 1 fully isolated high-speed CAN port, containing a Bosch DCAN controller, which has CAN 2.0B-compatibility. The CAN port has an ISO 11898 standard NXP TJA1041AT high-speed transceiver capable of supporting baud rates as high as 1 Mbps. Moreover, for CAN operation, the CAN port requires a supply voltage range of 9 to 30 VDC. 

The National Instruments sbRIO-9862 C Series CAN Interface Module shows promising performance in applications involving hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, bus monitoring, and rapid-control prototyping. To communicate with other devices, the sbRIO-9862 module requires the installation of NI-XNET software to enable the onboard transceiver. The NI-XNET driver performs efficiently in applications concerning a large number of high-speed real-time CAN frames and signals. 

The NI sbRIO-9862 module is available with one 9-pin male D-SUB connector. The sbRIO-9862 can be connected to 30 CAN nodes if all nodes fulfill the ISO standard 11898 requirements. The sbRIO-9862 CAN Interface Module dissipates 1 W of power during operation. The NI sbRIO-9862 module’s protection scheme permits a maximum voltage of -27 to +40 VDC between the port and COM, as well as 60 VDC continuous between the port and earth ground.
