National Instruments sbRIO-9871 C Series Serial Interface Module

The sbRIO-9871 is a C Series Serial Interface Module manufactured by National Instruments. The NI sbRIO-9871 module comes with the part number 780879-01. The sbRIO-9871 Serial Interface Module is used in conjunction with CompactRIO systems, adding RS485 or RS22 serial ports to the system. The addition of serial ports results in the flexibility of communication of CompactRIO systems with serial devices by providing direct access to the serial ports from the FPGA. By using the NI sbRIO-98971 Serial Interface Module, a data rate of 2 Mbps can be transferred between the CompactRIO system and the module. 

The sbRIO-9871 C Series Serial Interface Module has 4 fully isolated RS485/RS422 ports, each equipped with an individual buffer. Additionally, each port of the module has compatibility with the ANSI/EIA/TIA-485 standard. The NI sbRIO-9871 can achieve a maximum baud rate of 3.6864 Mbps and a throughput rate of 1.28 Mbps. The sbRIO-9871 C Series Serial Interface Module can be connected with an external supply (V_sup) of +8V to +28 V.

The NI sbRIO-9871 Serial Interface Module comes with a built-in safety feature for reliable operation. The sbRIO-9871 module can endure voltage in the range of -8 VDC to +13 VDC between the RS485/422 port and COM. The maximum safe voltage that can be applied between V_sup and COM is ±28 VDC. Furthermore, the NI sbRIO-9871 C Series Serial Interface Module is also available with ESD protection in the range of -15 kV to +15 kV. The sbRIO-9871 module requires 0.5 W from chassis and 1 W from the external supply V_sup during operation.
