National Instruments USB-9162 CompactDAQ Chassis

The National Instruments NI USB-9162 (Part Number: 779471-01) is a Single-Module Carrier CompactDAQ Chassis. The USB-9162 is considered an easily portable and cost-effective model for NI C Series modules. This one-slot carrier can be utilized to prototype sensor connections before the user integrates modules into a National Instruments CompactRIO system. The NI USB-9162 Carrier can also be deployed as a debugging instrument for large systems. In addition, the USB-9162 can be used for prototyping sensor links before the modules are introduced into an NI CompactRIO system.

This Chassis supports USB 2.0 Hi-Speed bus interface and consumes 500 mA maximum current from USB while operating and 2.5 mA maximum in suspend mode. The NI USB 9162 offers 250 VAC continuous channel-to-channel isolation and 1500 VAC channel-to-channel withstand isolation. This NI CompacDAQ Chassis is a Measurement Category II instruments, which is for measurements completed on circuits directly linked to the electrical distribution system.

The USB-9162 National Instruments comes with threaded inserts, so it can be mounted to a panel or wall. The USB 9162 features a green LED near the USB connector. The rate of this LEDs blinking indicates different device states. A single blink shows that the device is online and receiving power whereas a double-blink confirms that there is no error and the device is operating normally. This CompactDAQ Chassis does not require additional software installation since it is fully compatible with the NI-DAQmx for Windows and NI-DAQmx Base for Mac OS and Linux. The user can have their NI USB-9162 up and running by inserting the Chassis’ cable into any USB 2.0 port available on a PC or Mac if the required program is already installed. The NI device weighs 3.5 oz, and measures 4.51 x 3.37 x 0.99 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 60 °C, a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 °C, and a non-condensing operating and storage humidity range of 10 to 90% RH and 5 to 95% RH respectively.

USB-9162 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Chassis will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
