National Instruments DAQPad-6508 Digital I/O Device

The DAQPAD-6508 (Part Numbers: 777661-01, 777661-06, 777661-07) is a Digital I/O Device for computers with USB ports. This device is manufactured by National Instruments and is available with part number 777661-01. Part number 777661-07 is for the version of the DAQPAD-6508 with a power supply of Japan 100VAC, while the 777661-06 has the power supply of United Kingdom 240VAC.  The NI DAQPAD-6508 is controlled by using four 24-bit PPIs (Programmable Peripheral Interfaces). These PPIs are further divided into three 8-bit sub ports. These sub ports have transfer rates of up to 60 S/s. This 96-bit digital I/O for USB can be operated in uni-directional as well as bi-directional mode when interacting with the PPIs. This Digital I/O Device finds use in a broad range of applications. The DAQPad-6508 can interface with different devices depending upon the application requirements. Some compatible devices are plotters, I/O modules, terminal panels, and printers.  

This Digital I/O Device has 96 bi-directional 5 V static I/O lines with 8-bit ports. The NI DAQPAD-6508 supports both TTL and CMOS. The output signal current is 0.5A maximum at +5 VDC at pin-49 and pin-99. It has a current drive of 2.5 mA per channel/240 mA total. The DAQPAD-6508 has mass termination. The DAQPad-6508 offers a two-wired handshake capability for easy and perfect connectivity without creating any complications. This device requires one port for the handshaking function. It has an external power requirement of up to 12 W at 9–30 VDC, and a USB current requirement of 220 mA typical and 500 mA maximum at 4.40–5.25 VDC.

For transferring data, the NI DAQPAD-6508 uses a 100-pin female, 0.050 series D-type connector. The power-up state of the DAQPAD-6508 can be configured manually. The user has the flexibility to select a high or low wake-up state. To achieve this function, a 100 kΩ resistor is connected with each terminal. To use the DAQPAD-6508 with a PC, NI-DAQ software can be utilized. NI-DAQ software is ideal to perform digital I/O and write custom programs. NI-DAQ also has several built-in example programs for different ADEs such as LabVIEW or LabWindows/CVI.

The DAQPAD-6508 measures 9.0 x 5.7 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0° to 70° C and –55° to 150° C respectively, a non-condensing relative humidity range of 5% to 90%.
