National Instruments PCIe-6509 Digital I/O Device

The PCIe-6509 (Part number: 779976-01, 196640C-01L) is an advanced Digital I/O Device from National Instruments. The device comes with 96 digital I/O channels. These channels are bidirectional in nature. The value of the current drive for each channel is 24 mili-amperes. This device comes with the capability to drive external devices directly; this mainly includes the relays that are solid state. It also offers the flexibility to configure any port as an input or output port for the data. The NI PCIe-6509 Digital I/O Device also features programming capabilities, which allows the user to configure output parameters for different operational requirements.

The NI PCIe-6509 Digital I/O Device has multiple accessories available, including cables and connectors of different types. It enables the user to quickly set up the device. The instrument is also compatible with single-ended GND referenced TTL Schmitt Triggers/CMOS. The user can also control the output power of the device with the help of software. The NI PCIe-6509 device also has a protection mechanism against the input voltage. It has the maximum value of ± 20 volts. This value is up to two pins of the NI PCIe-6509 Digital I/O Device.  

The NI PCIe-6509 Digital I/O Device has the voltage range of 0 to 5 volts for the digital inputs only. The range for output voltages is from -0.5 to 5.5 volts. This model has a PCI Express bus connector. It also incorporates the in-house watchdogs. It helps enable the mechanism to recover the instrument from fault state. The device is equipped with a 100-pin female 0.050 series SCSI I/O connector.

The PCIe-6509 is run using the NI-DAQmx driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, or Visual Basic.

The NI device weighs 0.21 lb, and measures 5.6 x 4.1 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of –20 °C to 70 °C, and an operating and nonoperating random vibration of 0.3 grms and 2.4 grms respectively–all at a frequency range of 5 Hz to 500 Hz.
