National Instruments PCI-4551 Dynamic Signal Acquisition Device

The PCI-4551 is ideal for sound and vibration applications since it is equipped with the hardware and software required to complete accurate measurements of the signals associated with microphones and various other types of transducers with a wide dynamic range. The NI PCI-4551 can be used for analog/digital triggering as well. The analog and digital filters in the hardware of this Dynamic Signal Acquisition Board (DSA) help stop aliasing. This 2 Analog Input Model has a sampling rate of 204.8 kS/s, 2 Analog Outputs, and update rate of 51.2 kS/s, and 8 Digital I/O.

The NI PCI-4551 DSA is a software configurable model, which requires bus-related and data acquisition-related configurations. This device is compatible with the PCI Local Bus Specification Revision 2.0. The bus-related configuration involves the user setting the PCI 4551 base memory address and interrupt channel. The date acquisition-related configuration, on the other hand, involves the user setting the analog input mode, input polarity and range, and more. These settings can be altered through NI application-level software, including: VirtualBench, LabWindows/CVI, LabVIEW, or ComponentWorks. The settings can additionally be changed through driver-level software like NI-DAQ.

The National Instruments PCI-4551 board has several optional accessories available for purchase separately, including the following: an SHC50-68 digital cable, RTSI cables, and shielded and DIN rail-mountable 68-pin connector blocks. NI advises users to not create their own cabling solution because it becomes problematic to work with the high-density connector, as well as difficult to keep up a high signal integrity.
