National Instruments PXI-4472B PXI Sound and Vibration Module

The PXI-4472B (Part number: 778279-02) is a Sound and Vibration Module manufactured by National Instruments with eight simultaneously sampled analog input channels, 24 bits resolution, AC/DC coupling, a ,maximum sampling rate of 102.4 kS/s, and 0.5 Hz cutoff frequency. This module utilizes a conversion technique called delta-sigma modulation, which means if the desired data rate is 51.2 kS/s, then every ADC will sample the input signal at 6.5536 MS/s. Several more steps follow, but the outcome is a wide dynamic range.

The analog trigger circuitry on the PXI-4472B can be constructed to keep track of any input channel which the user has obtained information from. If the user designates an input channel as the trigger channel, then it will not affect the input channel’s procurement capabilities. Additionally, the user can arrange their Sound and Vibration Module to begin gathering samples after the input signal reaches a certain point.

A few analog triggering modes are available on the National Instruments PXI-4472B, including: window triggering, analog edge, and analog edge with hysteresis. Firstly, window triggering happens when an analog signal arrives or leaves a window determined by two levels. The user can designate the levels by choosing a value for the top and bottom window limitations. For analog edge triggering, the module can be arranged to discover a specific Level and slopes for signals. On the other hand, analog edge triggering with hysteresis allows the user to add a window over or under the trigger level. This trigger type is most commonly implemented to decrease inaccurate triggering caused by noise or jitter in the signal. The device has a power requirement of 400 mA maximum at +3.3 VDC, 2000 mA at +5 VDC, 120 mA max at both +12 and -12 VDC. The NI device weighs 8.5 oz, and measures 6.3 x 3.9 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C, and a storage temperature range of –20 to 70 °C.

PXI-4472B Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.

The PXI-4472B is available to be calibrated. While the recommended calibration period for individual parts varies, most parts should be calibrated either annually or every two years to ensure accuracy. If you need the PXI-4472B calibrated, Apex Waves provides options. We offer high-quality NIST accredited calibrations through a 3rd party, with an average turnaround time of 1 to 2 weeks. When you order the PXI-4472B with us, you can request basic (unaccredited) in-house calibration that will calibrate the part to the manufacturer specifications prior to being shipped. Call or email us today for more information about calibrating the PXI-4472B!
