National Instruments NI-6587 Digital I/O Adapter Module for FlexRIO

The NI-6587 (Part number: 781702-01) is a Digital I/O Adapter Module for FlexRIO with 20 bidirectional digital channels, 100 Ohm digital I/O termination, and 1 GHz maximum clock rate. Of the 20 bidirectional digital channels, there are 16 data channels and 4 PFI channels. This Digital I/O Adapter Module can execute user-defined protocols and perform interfacing of standard protocols in real time. The NI-6587 has a maximum date rate of 1 Gbits/s and supports regular LVDS voltages. This module was designed for industry experts who seek a mix of value and utility. The NI 6587 module does not have a duplex feature.

Data rates consistently increase as technologies evolve, calling for the expansion of the capacity of storage devices, streaming infrastructure, and processing elements. This process is facilitated by the integration of an FPGA between the processor and the I/O. When the NI-6587 module is used with an NI FlexRIO FPGA Module, it is referred to as the NI-6587R.

This Digital I/O Adapter Module can interface with various signals, such as single‐ended, differential, and serial signals at different voltage levels. The user can also combine the NI 6587 module with reconfigurable FPGAs to meet a range of application requirements, including high‐speed communication with devices under test and the simulation of real-time custom protocols.
