National Instruments NI-7932 Controller for FlexRIO

The NI 7932 (Part number: 783765-01) from National Instruments is a Controller for FlexRIO that is designed to provide consistent, extensive operations for applications that demand advanced I/O facility and fixed signal processing. An instrument optimized for field development, this model features a programmable FPGA, 2 SFP high-speed serial ports for streaming, a dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor, and includes the NI Linux Real‐Time software for headless operation.

The NI-7932 Controller needs a 9 V to 30 V external power supply. The NI 7932 filters and monitors the supplied power and delivers power to the I/O modules. The power plug can be attached to the NI-7932 FlexRIO Controller with two tightened screws. In addition, the user should note that the maximum wire gage allowed for the power connector plug is 16 AWG.

The user can perform a synchronized relay of data when the I/O module sample clock is paired with the Controller for FlexRIO’s clocking circuitry. The NI-7932 features a DSP-focused Xilinx Kintex-7 K325T FPGA, with 2 GB of onboard DRAM and SD card support up to 32 GB. The NI 7932 also has a real-time clocking accuracy of 5 ppm.

The clocking feature of the NI-7932 Controller for FlexRIO makes it simple for engineers to perform accurate clocking and harmonization with the options it provides. This includes a bi-directional trigger line and the ability to phase-lock to an external reference. The processor speed for this FlexRIO Controller is up to 667 MHz maximum. This controller also features an Internal Reference Clock which has a VCXO oscillator, an internal reference clock frequency of 100 MHz, and a frequency pull range at up to ± 100 ppm.
