National Instruments PXIe-1489 FlexRIO GMSL Interface Module

The PXIe-1489 (part numbers: 788355-01, 788356-01, 788357-01) from National Instruments is a FlexRIO GMSL Interface Module, specifically made for applications such as testing autonomous driving video sensors and advanced driver assistance systems. This high-speed digital interface utilizes a Xilinx FPGA in conjunction with an integrated GMSL (gigabit multimedia serial link) to create a configurable PXI interface. The reconfigurable KU11P FPGA of the PXIe-1489 makes it an excellent choice for handling data efficiently. The FPGA boasts 21 mb of embedded block RAM in addition to 60 DMA channels, facilitating the module’s excellent processing capabilities.  

The PXIe-1489 is available in three distinct variations; a Deserializer (part number 788355-01), a Serializer ( part number 788357-01), and a SerDes (combination serializer / deserializer: part number 788356-01).  The Deserializer version of the PXIe-1489 includes four input channels and a CSI-2 interface that is equipped with either 1, 2, or 4 lanes that feature 600 Mb/s to 2,500 Mb/s per lane. The Serializer version of the module is similar in almost every aspect to the deserializer- the only difference being that the four channels are output instead of input. Finally, the SerDes version of the PXIe-1489 is equipped with two input channels and two output channels, with a maximum tap pair of 2 per module. 

The onboard DRAM for the PXIe-1489 includes 4 GB of memory, which is distributed across 2 banks of 2 GB each. The physical bus for the onboard DRAM is 32 bits in width, and it operates at a clock rate of 1064 MHz. When used in conjunction with LabVIEW FPGA, the DRAM clock rate lowers to 267 MHz, while the bus width increases dramatically to 256 bits per bank. The dimensions of the PXIe-1489 measure 21.6 cm x 2.0 cm x 13.0 cm (8.5 in. x 0.8 in. x 5.1 in.) and it weighs 472 g (16.7 oz).
