National Instruments PCIe-8231 Frame Grabber Device

The NI PCIe-8231 (Part Number: 779813-01) is a 1-Port Frame Grabber Device with a GigE Vision interface, which is designed for cameras that send pictures via gigabit Ethernet. GigE Vision is a great option for vision applications that entail long cable distances or more affordable cabling. Although the cabling is less complicated, an additional cable is needed to provide power to the camera. NI Vision Acquisition software will function with any gigabit Ethernet controller; however, it is heightened for Intel gigabit Ethernet controllers. The PCIe-8231 provides the bandwidth users require for challenging vision applications.

To operate the PCIe 8231, these items are required: an Ethernet cable, NI Vision Acquisition Software 8.2.1 or later, a GigE Vision Camera, NI Vision Acquisition Software Release Notes, and a computer with Windows 2000/XP and a minimum of one PCIe slot. There are also several optional software packages and documentation that can be used with the NI PCIe-8231, which includes: Microsoft Visual Basic, LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, NI Vision Development Module, and NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection.

The PCIe-8231 is designed for a x1 PCIe slot. The National Instruments PCIe-8231 Frame Grabber Device can fit into and be utilized in the following types of slots: x4, x8, or x16 PCIe slot. The user should be careful when installing this Frame Grabber Device in a computer because installing it into a PCI, PCI-X, AGP, or any non-PCIe slot can result in damage to the computer motherboard and the model. If the user is not sure of the slot type, refrain from installing the PCIe 8231 to prevent damage.
