National Instruments SB-GPIB/TNT GPIB Interface Board

The National Instruments SB-GPIB/TNT is a high-performance, IEEE 488.2 Interface Board. This device comes as a standard component with Sun SPARCstation Series Workstations. The NI SB-GPIB/TNT incorporates the TNT 4882C ASIC– a powerful chip that performs the basic Controller, Listener, and Talker IEEE 488.2 functions. With the DVMA transfers and the TNT4882C, you can achieve data transfer rates greater than 1.4 Mbytes/s through 3-wire handshake. This interface board can easily be deployed in any master SBus slot. You can connect up to 14 instruments to this device by using standard IEEE 488 cables.

The NI SB-GPIB/TNT is capable of implementing HS488 as well. Thus, data transfers at even higher rates (up to 3.6 MBytes/s) are also achievable. The SB-GPIB/TNT is a powerful option for systems involving a large number of instruments because you can add two or more SB-GPIB/TNT boards in a single host machine. IEEE 488 expanders or extenders, including the GPIB-110, GPIB 120A, or GPIB 130, are other options for applications where you need to control more than 14 GPIB compatible instruments.

This board is fully compatible with all versions of the IEEE 488 standard. The NI SB-GPIB/TNT comes with a TNT4882C chip, which contains the circuits of the Turbo488 ASIC, GPIB transceivers, and NAT 4882 ASIC. The state-of-the-art packaging techniques implemented in the construction of this IEEE 488.2 board make it a compact yet powerful GPIB solution for routine desktop computers. However, the SB-GPIB/TNT is designed for systems running on Solaris 2.

SB-GPIB/TNT Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the board will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
