National Instruments PCI-6230 Multifunction DAQ

The National Instruments PCI-6230 (Part Number: 779615-01, 192236A-01) is a Bank Isolated, Multifunctional Data Acquisition Board from the M Series. This device offers an optimum combination of performance and safety benefits of isolation with high-performance amplification, timing, and calibration technologies required for accurate precision control and measurements. The bank isolation capability incorporated in the NI PCI-6230 brings noise rejection, safety from transients, reduced ground loops, as well as common-mode voltage rejection.

This device is an ideal solution for applications in high-voltage and electrical noise rich environments. The NI PCI 6230 DAQ can be used with proximity sensors, control valves, pumps, flow meters, relays, etc. This DAQ board features 8 single-ended or 4 differential analog inputs through 16 bit resolution ADC with ±10 V, ±5 V, and ±1 V, ±0.2 V input range, DC coupling, and 250 KS/s maximum sampling rate at 50 ppm timing accuracy. The NI PCI 6230 features continuous bank isolation up to 60 VDC and up to 1950 VDC channel-to-bus isolation.

This model is designed with four analog output channels backed by 16-bit Digital-to-Analog converters. The maximum achievable update rate per analog output channel is 500 kS/s. The user can achieve 450, 425, and 400 KS/s per channel update rate while operating with two, three, or four channels respectively. The NI PCI-6230 supports DC output coupling and has an output range of ±10 V. The output FIFO incorporated in this device can handle 8,191 and is shared among channels. For the edge, semi-period, period, and other counter measurements, the PCI-6230 has two 32 bit counters/timers with an operating frequency of 80 MHz as well. The device is equipped with a 37-pin D-SUB I/O connector.

The PCI-6230 is run using the NIDAQmx driver software which can be programmed with software packages or application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW or LabWindows/CVI. The NI device weighs 0.24 lb, and measures 3.8 x 6.1 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C.

PCI-6230 Legacy Status has been announced by National Instruments, but will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.

While the recommended calibration period for individual parts varies, most parts should be calibrated either annually or every two years to ensure accuracy.
