National Instruments VXI-8340 VXI MXI-3 Interface Module

The VXI-8340 is a VXI MXI-3 Interface Module. The NI VXI-8340 module is manufactured by National Instruments. The VXI-8340 module is designed in two versions: with either a single-port (Part Number: 778293-01) or a dual-port (Part Number: 778293-02). The single-port NI VXI-8340 module is used for connecting directly to a PC, whereas the dual-port VXI-8340 version is used in a system that has a multi-chassis configuration connected in a daisy chain sequence.

The VXI-8340 VXI MXI-3 Interface Module can also be used as a part of the VXI-PCI/PXI8340 interface kit. The NI VXI-PCI/PXI8340 interface kit includes a PCI or PXI module from the NI 8330 series, one VXI-8340 interface module, a cable, and bus interface software. The NI VXI-8340 module is compatible with copper cabling. This VXI MXI-3 Interface Module links an external computer with VXI via MXI-3 technology. The VXI-8340 is a high-performance module due to its ability to combine MITE ASIC with the MXI-3 ASIC. The MITE ASIC is a technology used in the VXI controllers by National Instruments. A PCI-PCI bridge interface is available in the MXI-3 ASIC. This bridge interface is capable of operating at PCI bus full frequency, which is 33 MHz.  

The VXI-8340 VXI MXI-3 Interface Module can be used in a multiple-chassis configuration. The single-port NI VXI-8340 module can only be connected with the controlling PC using a star configuration. In this configuration, each single-port VXI-8340 module is connected to a PC using a direct cable from the VXI-8340 module to the PC. The dual-port NI VXI-8340 module also supports the daisy chain configuration. The dual-port VXI-8340 module incorporates two MXI-3 ports: MXI-in and MXI-out. A cable coming from the PC goes into the MXI-in port, then to the MXI-out port, and lastly the MXI-in port of the next NI VXI-8340 module.

VXI-8340 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
