National Instruments PXI-8366 Remote Control Module

The NI PXI-8366 (Part Number: 781401-01) can be used with many types of name brand PCs, laptops, and motherboards that contain a PCI, PCI Express, or ExpressCard slot. Although specific complicated MXI-Express configurations can create difficulties for the BIOS of the systems to suitably compute all of the required resources.  This is referred to as a BIOS incompatibility, which happens rarely. However, there is a solution to this problem. Users can download MXI-Express BIOS compatibility software from National Instruments.

The PXI 8366 Remote Control Module utilizes fiber-optic cabling for a maximum length of 200 meters. Since fiber-optic cables are used, this module does not need to be use with shielded cables. This module should be inserted in slot 1, the controller slot, of the second chassis when used in a Multichassis PXI System. This module does not require any accessories to be operated.

Using the PXI-8366 module allows for increased error correction and handling for loud or severe conditions, higher performance, a more affordable solution, and support for two chassis from one card in the host PC. One important thing to keep in mind is that the NI MXI-Express x1 Series boards cannot be used with boards from the NI MXI-3 or NI MXI-4 Series. The National Instruments PXI-8366 Remote Control Module from the NI MXI-Express x1 Series, for example, cannot be used with the PCI-8336 from the MXI-4 Series. These two devices have the same connectors but different board-to-board communication protocols which are not compatible.

The NI PXI-8366 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
