National Instruments PCIe-8383 MXI Express Controller

The PCIe-8383 (part numbers: 789542-01, 789571-01) from National Instruments is an MXI Express Controller made for the PXI Express Interface. Made to connect systems or devices from a PCI to PCI using a PCI Express slot, this remote controller is part of the MXI-Express Gen 2 x8 series, which allows for a PCI Express connection to be extended up to 5 meters across a wire. The PCIe-8383 controller allows for the host PC to be physically distinguished from the automation or measurement system.

The difference between the two part numbers of the device is that part number 789571-01 is for the PXIe-PCIe-8383. 

The remote nature of the PCIe-8383 allows it to be used with compatible PXI modules in the same way it would operate with PCI devices plugged into the physical machine. The remote connection is transparent to drivers and software programs, allowing the user to use industry-standard desktop PCs or servers to operate the connected devices. No additional programming is required when using these features, making it incredibly user friendly. However, it is important to note that the only operating systems that the PCIe-8383 is compatible with is Windows 10 or newer. 

The PCIe-8383 comes equipped with a singular LED, which indicates the connectivity status of the module through different colors. When a link has been successfully formed with the chassis, the LED displays a solid green. On the other hand, an unsuccessful connection results in a solid amber LED.  

Designed for robust operation in a variety of environments, the PCIe-8383 has an operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C. It can be safely stored in temperatures ranging from -20 °C to 70 °C, allowing the user to have peace of mind when the device is not in use. The PCIe-8383 can be operated at altitudes up to 2,000m. It has dimensions of 6.89 cm x 12.35 cm (2.71 in. x 4.86 in.) and weighs in at 0.11 kg (0.24 lb).
