National Instruments NB-GPIB Interface Board

The NB-GPIB is an Interface Board. The NB-GPIB board is developed by National Instruments. The NB-GPIB is a member of the NB Series. The NI NB-GPIB is also available for purchase under part number 181210-01. This high-speed IEEE 488.2 Controller can be used with the LabVIEW application software for programming. The NB-GPIB is designed for Apple Macintosh NuBus computers and can be utilized with the NI-488.2 driver software. LabVIEW and NI-488.2 software programs ensure that programming the NB-GPIB to work as an IEEE 488.2 Controller with communication and bus management features is an easy process.

The NI NB-GPIB can be used with the NB-DMA2800 Interface Board, RTSI bus cables, single-shielded GPIB cables, and double-shielded GPIB cables. The NB-GPIB is configured to combine with the features of NAT4882 and Turbo488 ASICs by National Instruments. In the NB-GPIB, the NAT4882 renders the basic IEEE-488 Listener, Talker, and Controller features, along with the IEEE 488.2 Controller features.

The Turbo488 ASIC on this board improves the performance by combining two 16-byte FIFOs with circuitry to pack and unpack 16-bit accesses from the NuBus to 8-bit transfers across the GPIB. The NI NB-GPIB supports the data transfer rates up to 800 kbytes/sec for programmed I/O. The power requirement of this board is +5 VDC, 1.25 A maximum.

The National Instruments NB-GPIB Board can be connected with a maximum of 13 devices via standard GPIB cables. This Interface Board can also be utilized with a GPIB extender or GPIB expander/isolator if more devices need to be added to the system.
