National Instruments 182845-03 S8 Serial Cable

The 182845-03 is a thin-profile Serial Cable from National Instruments, which has a 9-Pin, Male DB-9 Back-End Connection and a 10-Pin, Male RJ50 Front-End Connection. This cable is also known as an S8 cable with a length of 3 meters. With this S8 Serial Cable, you will be able to interconnect almost all types of serial communications enabled devices regardless of the protocol.

The S8 Serial Cable not only supports RS-232, but it can also be used with devices that operate on RS485 protocols. However, both devices connected via this cable should be configured to communicate through a common protocol because each serial protocol allocates different communication channels for different purposes.  As an example, consider pin #6 of the modular jack which will be used as GND by devices operating at RS232, while the same pin will be used as RDX by devices operating on RS-422/485.
