National Instruments part number 778692-02 is the version of the PCI-5421 Arbitrary Waveform Generator that has 32 MB of onboard memory, which is equal to 33,554,432 bytes. Waveforms and instructions may share the onboard memory of the 778692-02, thanks to its sophisticated Synchronization and Memory Core technology. This technology allows the user to change the memory use settings, which include the maximum number of waveforms that may be kept in memory and the number of segments that can be in a sequence list.

There are two different output modes available for the 778692-02: arbitrary waveform and arbitrary sequence. In the arbitrary waveform mode of the generator, a single waveform is selected from a group that is kept in the onboard memory. When the device is in arbitrary sequence mode, it receives instructions on what order to output a set of waveforms. These instructions are detailed on “segments”, which are individual parts of a sequence, and they determine which waveform is selected.
