National Instruments PXIe-1084 PXI Chassis

The National Instruments PXIe-1084 (Part Numbers: 784058-01 and 786397-01) is a PXI Chassis that features 17 hybrid slots and an all-hybrid backplane. Boasting a hybrid connector in each peripheral slot, the PXIe-1084 is incredibly flexible when it comes to module placement. As a result, this chassis is an excellent choice for a wide range of measurement and test applications that require high performance. The difference between the two part numbers of the chassis is that part number 786397-01 comes with a timing and synchronization option, while part number 784058-01 is the standard version of the device. The timing and synchronization option of the NI PXIe-1084 includes trigger routing capabilities and the connectors for a 10 MHz reference clock I/O.

The hybrid slots of the NI PXIe-1084 PXI Chassis can accept a variety of peripheral modules; such as CompactPCI, CompactPCI Express, PXI, and PXI Express. The chassis is able to operate in two main fan modes- Auto and High. When in Auto mode, the speed of the chassis fans is controlled in relation to the air inlet temperature. However, when in High mode, the cooling fans remain at a high speed during operation. These fans are field replaceable, meaning that faulty fans can be easily replaced without needing to disconnect the chassis from the control or measurement system. The PXIe-1084 Chassis offers 58 watts of cooling per slot, offering noiseless operation at 34.4 dBA.

The NI PXIe-1084 can operate with up to 500 MB/s bandwidth per PXIe slot. The power supply, fans, and operating temperature of the chassis are constantly monitored by the control system. The recommended operating temperature range for the device differs slightly depending on the peripheral slot. When the cooling capabilities measure up to 38 W per slot, the operating temperature range is 0 °C to 50 °C. When the cooling capacity is up to 58 W per slot, this temperature range is slightly lowered to 0 °C to 40 °C. When not in use, the chassis has a storage temperature range of –40 °C to 71 °C.

Physically, the NI PXIe-1084 Chassis measures 177.1 mm x 445.5 mm x 463.6 mm (6.97 in. x 17.54 in. x 18.25 in.) and weighs a total of 13.5 kg (29.8 lb).
