National Instruments PXI-8170 PXI Controller

Featured with an Intel Processor packaged into the compactness of 3U Eurocard size, the National Instruments PXI-8170 is an embedded PXI/CompactPCI computer. This model is designed for faster system performance and maximum computing power. This high-performance 3U controller operates with all CompactPCI and PXI peripheral modules and is offered with pre-installed Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows NT. The NI PXI-8170 can also be acquired with pre-loaded National Instruments application software, such as LabWindows/CVI and LabVIEW.

This Controller comes equipped with a powerful BX chipset sourced from the Intel Corporation. In its standard configuration, the NI PXI-8170 is offered with 1 ultra DMA33 hard drive, 1 serial port, 1 parallel port, a 3.5 in. 1.44 MB floppy drive, 1 USB port, integrated Super VGA with 2 MB DRA, and 64 MB of 100 MHz SDRAM. The flexible infrastructure of this device allows easy upgradation of RAM up to 256 MB. This model requires 1 system slot and 3 controller expansion slots for its deployment.

The NI PXI-8170 has 8.1 by 13 by 21.6 cm dimensions and weighs around 1.1 Kg (2.4 lb). This controller can be interfaced directly to PXI-1020 and PXI-1025 chassis.  For peripheral expansion, the NI PXI-8170 utilizes PCI local bus and accelerated graphics ports (AGP) for peripheral expansion. It’s to be noted that the AGP is a high-performance graphics interface, which provides a bus speed of 266 Mbytes/s. The PCIbus offers a maximum throughput of 132 Mbytes.

PXI-8170 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
