National Instruments PXI-8185 PXI Controller

Designed to be used in any PXI or CompactPCI system, the National Instruments PXI-8185 (Part numbers: 778825-02, 778825-00, 778825-01) is a Celeron based Embedded PXI Controller. This model comes equipped with a 1.2 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 256 MB of RAM, and a 30 GB HDD (upgradeable). The NI PXI 8185 is known for its extensive range of extended I/O provided for secure connectivity to other peripherals or instruments.  The National Instruments PXI-8185 has a single socket for SDRAM with the power to hold up to 512 MB memory. The device is equipped with 1 system slot and 3 controller expansion slots.

This model comes featured with a Serial port, two USB 1.1 ports, 30 GB Hard drive (expandable), a parallel port, and a 10/100BaseTX Ethernet port. The two USB ports available onboard can be used for connection to standard PC peripherals, such as printers, memory sticks, etc. The USB ports can be used for connection to an extended CD drive for easy and quick software installation. In its standard configuration, the NI PXI-8185 is offered with a pre-installed operating system. However, the user can always switch over to another compatible operating system whenever they want.

The PXI-8185 is run using the NI-DAQ driver software which is compatible with software packages like NI-VISA, LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio. This Embedded Controller offers excellent graphics and memory performance since it uses Dynamic Memory Video Technology (DMVT) by Intel®. The National Instruments PXI-8185 can be deployed and operated in a harsh operating environment because it can work in a broad range of ambient temperatures, i.e. 5 to 50 °C. As far as its reliability is concerned, this model`s predicted Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is 180,000 h.

The NI device weighs 2.26 lb, and measures 3.2 x 5.1 x 8.5 in. in physical dimensions, and has an operating and non-operating random vibration of 0.3 grms and 2.4 grms respectively – all at a frequency range of 5 to 500 Hz.

PXI-8185 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
