National Instruments PXIe-8115 Controller

The National Instruments PXIe-8115 (Part Numbers: 781729-04 and 781729-33) Controller can be used in conjunction with a PXI Express-compatible chassis, such as the PXIe-1082, with the result of a PC-compatible computer. This controller has a dual-core Intel Core i5-2510 processor, a 250 GB hard drive, regular I/O, a PCI-based GPIB controller, an ExpressCard/34 expansion slot, a parallel port, two Gigabit Ethernet, an RS-232 serial port, and various other useful features. The board dimensions of the National Instruments PXIe-8115 Controller are four-wide 3U size PXI Express module. This controller weighs 2.91 pounds and has one system slot with three controller expansion slots. Since many of the I/O ports are integrated, every active slot in the chassis stays accessible for measurement and control modules. The structure of the NI PXIe-8115 reduces integration problems and eradicates the necessity of complicated cabling to daughter boards.

The PXIe-8115 Controller has several data storage features, including: USB storage support with a floppy drive, mass storage device, USB CD/DVD-ROM and a 2.5 inch SATA notebook internal hard drive. The SO-DIMM blocks entail a single 64-bit DDR3 SDRAM socket which can hold a maximum 8 GB of memory. There is also a slot for ExpressCards on the front panel of the controller. ExpressCard modules can be inserted while the NI PXIe-8115 Controller is on; the controller will detect the card. ExpressCards typically have a marking to show which end to install into the slot. The cards are wired to stop inaccurate insertion. Once the ExpressCard is inserted, the driver(s) will load.

PXIe-8115 Maintenance Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
