National Instruments HDD-8261 PXI Data Storage Module

The National Instruments HDD-8261 (Part Numbers: 784191-01 and 784192-01) is a PXI Data Storage Module. This module is offered in two variations: a 4-drive version and a 6-drive version. The NI HDD-8261 is designed to hold a 2.5 in mechanical laptop or solid-state hard drives and supports a software-based spanned/striped/simple RAID array. This module is 3-slots wide and designed to fit into compatible versions of PXI Express chassis. High speed read/write capabilities for this Data Storage Module make it ideal for a variety of applications where signals are recorded and streamed. In addition to high-speed data streaming, the NI HDD-8261 supports the relocation of data between different test setups.

The 4-drive version of this module offers a sustained throughput of 250 MB/s and can be configured to provide a maximum storage capacity of 4 TB. A maximum throughput of 2 GB/s and a maximum storage capacity of 2.9 TB can be achieved through the 6-drive version of the NI HDD-8261. This PXI Data Storage Module can be used with a variety of PXIe controllers. However, for optimum steaming bandwidth, National Instruments recommends the PXIe-8880 Controller and the PXIe-1085 Chassis for use with this module.

The NI HDD-8261 comes with its own cooling fans. These fans can operate in both Auto and High mode. In Auto Mode, the speed of the fans is regulated according to the temperature of the cooling air. In High mode, the fans are operated at the maximum possible speed. It is important to note that the HDD-8261 offers superior performance with the fans in Auto mode.
