National Instruments 785118-01 PXI Waveform Generator

Part number 785118-01 from National Instruments is the version of the PXIe-5433 PXI Waveform Generator that is equipped with two channels. Each channel supports independent waveform generation, allowing two waveforms to be generated simultaneously. With a bandwidth of 80 MHz, the 785118-01 is able to generate Sine, Square, Triangle, Arbitrary, and Ramp waveforms with ease. 16 bits of DAC resolution help ensure accuracy. 

The frequency ranges of the 785118-01 depends on the waveform generated. Triangle, Ramp, and Square waveforms share two frequency ranges that differ depending on voltage. A voltage of 2.75 Vpk-pk results in a frequency range of 0 MHz to 50 MHz, while a voltage of 12 Vpk-pk has a range of 0 MHz to 30 MHz. Sine waveforms generated by the 785118-01 boast a frequency range of  0 MHz to 80 MHz, while Arbitrary waveforms support sizes in a range from 4 to 256,000,000 samples. 

The 785118-01 features an internal PXIe_CLK100 clock as a reference clock source, operating at a frequency of 100 MHz. In addition, the clock has a sample rate of 800 MHz.  In terms of power, the waveform generator has a total power usage of 29 W, drawing 2.3 A of current from the +3.3 V rail and 1.8 A from the +12 V rail.

Fully functional at altitudes up to 2,000m, the 785118-01 is designed for various environmental conditions. It can withstand an operating shock that is half-sine and 30 g at it’s peak, as well as random vibrations ranging from 5 Hz to 500 Hz. The Gen 1 ×4 bus interface of the generator makes it compatible with both PXIe and hybrid slots, allowing it to fit easily into a wide range of test systems. The 785118-01 weighs 369 g (13.0 oz), and has dimensions measuring 21.6 cm × 2.0 cm × 13.0 cm (8.5 in. × 0.8 in. × 5.1 in.).
