National Instruments REM-11178 Digital Module for Remote I/O

The National Instruments REM-11178 (Part Number: 784746-01) is a Digital Module for Remote I/O. The REM-11178 has 32 output channels, 24V maximum voltage, and is a one wire module. The remote input/output systems are inexpensive modules used for simple measurements and machine control. The NI REM-11178 consists of an Ethernet based field bus system called EtherCAT and some independent modules placed on a metal rail. Users can control the REM-11178 with a real time controller. Examples of real time controllers include an industrial controller or a CompactRIO controller. The NI REM-11178 could be used for adding inexpensive I/O for tasks of low complexity whereas, the controller can handle complex tasks, such as high-speed measurements and digital image processing.

The REM-11178 Digital Module for Remote I/O has a one-wire spring terminal connection, which permits easy wiring without requiring any tools. The module can drive a maximum of 500 mA current per channel and a maximum of 8 A current per module. The REM-11178 has overload protection and short circuit protection. The NI REM-11178 module communicates with other systems through EtherCAT. The supply of the Digital Module for Remote I/O is 24 VDC. The end user will connect an external fuse to the supply in order to safeguard it from reversing polarity.     

The REM-11178 fulfills the requirements of EMC electromagnetic compatibility. However, when it is used in harsh environments some damaging interferences can occur. To minimize the chances, the end user should carefully follow instructions while installing and operating the module.
