National Instruments PXI-8146RT PXI Computer

Featured with 64 MB DRAM, a 266 MHz processor, and 32 MB CompactFlash, the National Instruments PXI-8146RT is a real-time, Embedded PXI Controller. This model is based on the Industry Standard Architecture and Peripheral Component Interface (PCI) bus. In addition to various other standard interfaces, the NI PXI-8146RT also has an IEEE 488.2 (GPIB) interface. This GPIB interface is fully compatible with the NI AT-GPIB/TNT. In addition, an SMB connector is provided for the watchdog trigger. These two features make this model superior to its predecessor, the PXI-8145RT. This model allows easy upgradation of RAM as its memory socket is kept accessible to the user. Therefore, users with more extensive requirements can have additional DRAM installed in the field.

This controller supports 256 MB of 10 ns SDRAM (maximum) and uses 144-pin SO-DIMMS. The National Instruments PXI-8146RT features a watchdog that can count down from a user-defined value. This counter/timer or watchdog can easily be reset by the SMB connector or through software as well. In case of a software failure, this watchdog can assert a signal on the SMB connector, assert a backplane, set an occurrence, or reset the controller.

To provide the user with full GPIB control of external instruments through the front-panel connector, the NI PXI-8146RT features the TNT4882C custom ASIC. In addition, GPIB capability is entirely compatible with the industry-standard NI-488.2M driver for a broad range of applications. This National Instruments PXI-8146RT is a reliable device, with an MTBF of 257,363 h.
