National Instruments PCI-6111 Multifunction I/O Device

The NI PCI-6111 (Part number: 777530-01) is a plug and play Multifunction I/O Device designed by National Instruments. The device features both analog and digital multi-tasking for PCI bus systems. This model can also perform as a multifunction timing I/O device with PCI systems. The NI PCI-6111 has four analog to digital converter channels. These channels can perform 4 or 2 instantaneous AI samples. The NI device has 2 analog inputs (with a 12-bit frequency and a sampling rate of 5 MS/s), 2 analog outputs (with a 16-bit frequency and a sampling rate of 4 MS/s, 8 digital inputs/outputs (with a 5 V/TTL compatibility), and 2 counter/timer I/O lines (with 24-bits and a frequency of 20 MHz).

The NI PCI-6111 has an STC based NI-DAQ system, which helps control timing for time related functions. The STC based DAQ system includes three groups. Each group has three 16 bit and seven 24 bit counters. The highest timing resolution is about 50 nanoseconds. This DAQ system changes the sample rate of applications like buffered pulse generation. It can also change the sample rate of equivalent time sampling. The NI PCI-6111 has an efficient feature called Real Time System Integration (RTSI). This system includes a ribbon wire and a bus interface; it helps trigger the signals and route the timing among multiple functions. It is equipped with a 68-pin male SCSI-II type I/O connector.

This PCI Multifunction I/O Device is compatible with ComponentWorks and LabVIEW for Windows and Macintosh. It is also viable with softwares like NI-DAQ, LabWindows, and CVI for Windows. ComponentWorks offers a high level programming interface, which develops virtual instruments by typical OLE controls and DLLs. It also provides the complete configuration of all tools, helps in resource management and its utilization, and is useful for interactive control utilities like NI-DAQ. This software helps reduce the time of development required for data acquisition and decreases the time of development required for control applications.

The NI device measures 12.3 x 4.2 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 to 45 °C and –20 to 70 °C respectively.
