National Instruments SCXI-1190 Multiplexer Module

The SCXI-1190 is a Quad 4-Channel Multiplexing Switch Module. The module can switch signals from DC to 1.3 GHz. The highest rated voltage is 24 V, while the highest rated current is 1 A at 24 V. The NI SCXI-1190 can be controlled in an application development environment with the use of NI-SWITCH. Supported application development environments include C or C++, LabVIEW, Visual Basic, or LabWindows/CVI.

The SCXI 1190 Multiplexer Module is a reflective switch, so channels that are not switched to the common channel are unterminated. Thus, any signal on an unterminated channel is reflected to the source. For the majority of low-power switching applications, reflection is not an issue. Nevertheless, using the NI SCXI-1190 with an unterminated output can harm certain high-power RF sources.

The relay contacts on the SCXI-1190 are rated to last through 5 × 10 to the 6^th power mechanical operations if used without a signal or an extremely tiny signal. However, when they are used with a high-power load being switched, arcing can ensue across the relay contacts that will result in the decrease of their beneficial life.

This Multiplexer Module has five SMB male connectors for each of the four banks, 50 Ohms characteristic impedance, gold-clad silver relay contacts, 24 W maximum switching power for each channel, less than 300 ps rise time, less than 3 ns signal delay, 15 ms relay operate and release time, and 10 W maximum RF carry power at 900 MHz for each channel.

SCXI-1190 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
