National Instruments PCI-232/16 Serial Interface

The National Instruments PCI-232/16 is an asynchronous 16-port Serial Interface for PCI. This interface is designed for communicating with instruments through serial ports. The NI PCI-232/16 comes featured with 16 ports and offers up to 115.2 kb/s maximum transfer rate. This Serial Interface is available in 2-port (Part Number: 777642-02), 4-port (Part Number: 777642-04), 8-port (Part Number: 777642-08). and 16-port (Part Number: 777642-16) versions.

Each of the variations comes with the same specifications, but with different port numbers and different types of I/O connectors. The PCI-232/16 is the 16-port version and comes equipped with an SCSI 100-pin female connector. This Serial Interface utilizes a breakout box for the conversion of the onboard 100-pin connector to sixteen DB-9 connectors. The National Instruments PCI-232/16 is entirely plug-and-play compatible which brings users the advantage of automatic configuration.

This Serial Interface can easily be installed and accessed as standard serial ports from the user’s already existing applications or through NI-VISA oriented applications, such as Visual C++, Visual Basic, Excel, NI LabVIEW, etc. For improved performance, this interface device comes with an enhanced serial driver that offers easy configuration, improved performance, and more importantly access to the advanced control features of the RS485 interfaces. The NI PCI-232/16 draws 250 mA of current at +5 VDC from PCI channel.

This Serial Interface offers up to 115.2 kV data line ESD protection. Additionally, the NI PCI-232/16 is fully compatible with LabVIEW, Measurement Studio, and LabWindows/CVI. The user can have it installed on any Windows-based personal computer.

PCI-232/16 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
