National Instruments PCI-232/8 Serial Interface

The PCI-232/8 (Part number: 777642-08) is an advanced Serial Interface Board from National Instruments. This model offers an asynchronous interface for communicating with instruments. The communication is carried out with the help of serial ports. This interface can communicate for the maximum distance of 50 ft. There are 8 ports available on this model. It is an easy to use, plug and play device. The NI PCI-232/8 is compatible with full Windows 2000 and is also viable for NT, XP, ME, and 9x versions. This helps provide auto configuration for maintenance and installation.  This Serial Interface is equipped with an SCSI 68-pin connector. This is structured on the PCI-232/8 board. An adapter cable helps convert this SCSI 68-pin connector to eight male DB9 connectors.

The National Instruments PCI-232/8 is a non-isolated interface. This model has dimensions of 4.2 inches × 5.7 inches. This Serial Interface consumes power from typically 100 mA, up to a maximum 180 mA. The power consumption is at +5 VDC. The NI PCI-232/8 has power consumption from typical 80 mA, up to a maximum 800 mA. The consumption range is at ±12 VDC. The maximum size of the adapter cable is 2500 pF. This model also has an ESD protection feature for data lines. The PCI-232/8 can be protected up to ± 15 kV.

The NI PCI-232/8 can operate at the maximum height of 2000 meters. The instrument also complies with the EMC standards to fulfill various requirements for its users. The PCI-232/8 is run using the NI-Serial driver software which can be programmed using application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW or LabWindows/CVI.

It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 to 55 °C and –20 to 70 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% RH and 5 to 95% RH respectively. The serial interface is designed to comply with the following electrical safety standards: IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1.
