National Instruments PXI-8423/2 RS-485 Interface

Featured with a 64B FIFO, 460.8 (kb/s) transfer rate and optical isolation, the National Instruments PXI-8423/2 (Part Number: 777737-02) is an RS-485 Interface for PXI. It is an asynchronous interface for communicating with instruments through the serial port. This model has plug-and-play compatibility with Microsoft 2000, NT, XP, Me, and 9x. Thus, it brings the advantage of automatic configuration for hassle free installation. This device can easily be installed as a standard serial port from the user’s current applications, such as Visual Basic, Excel Visual, C++, etc.

This model is available in 2-port and 4-port configurations. In the 2-port configuration, DB-9, male connectors are incorporated with standard pin arrangement for RS232 and RS485 connectors. The 4-port version of the NI PXI-8423 comes with modular, 10-position phone jacks. However, these phone jacks can be converted to either DB-25 or DB-9 male connectors employing converter cables that can be acquired separately.

The National Instruments PXI-8423/2 offers advanced features such as universal PCI, flexible baud rates up to 2 Mb/s, and multiprocessor and hyperthreading compatibility. With this model, the user will be able to communicate with devices that operate with standard baud rates within 0.01 percent. Moreover, it allows communicating to devices operating with nonstandard baud rates within a range of 57 b/s up to 2 Mb/s. For improved efficiency and higher-speeds, the hyperthreading and multiprocessor compatibility of the PXI-8423/2 allows the user to take advantage of the latest PC technology. This interface device is offered with an enhanced serial driver for easy configuration, advanced performance, and access to all the advanced transceiver control modes.

PXI-8423/2 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
