National Instruments PXI-8831 PXI Ethernet Interface Module

The NI PXI-8831 is a high-performance PXI Gigabit Ethernet Interface Module. This model is designed for the National Instruments PXI-1031 chassis. PXI is a powerful PC-based platform for automation and measurement systems. This platform offers cooling, power, and a communication bus shared by multiple modules. This module comes with all the standard I/O, including: one serial controller, one video output port, one parallel port, and one Ethernet connector. In addition, the SMB connector provided on the front panel of the module can be used for PXI trigger connectivity.

The National Instruments PXI-8831 Ethernet Interface Module allows the user to change the configuration settings through BIOS utility. Therefore, the user can reconfigure the module or modify the default configuration by entering BIOS. The NI PXI-8831 can be used as an embedded system controller. For this, it should have to be plugged in slot 1 of a compatible PXI chassis. When used as the system controller, the PXI-8831 handles tasks such as arbitration for data transfers and clock sourcing.

This PXI Ethernet Interface Module comes with a battery-backed memory to keep the BIOS information stored. The NI PXI-8831 comes with an integrated hard drive from where the controller boots usually. However, the user can alter boot settings to boot the module from a USB device or a network source. This module is fully compatible with NI LabVIEW. Through LabVIEW, the user can build custom programs to acquire data from a broad range of instruments, such as PLCs, USB, VXI, and more.
