National Instruments USB-8452 I2C/SPI Interface Device
The USB-8452 (Part Numbers: 781964-01, 781964-02, 781964-03) is an Interface Device that can accomplish communication between inter-integrated circuit (I2C) devices and serial peripheral interface (SPI) devices. National Instruments (NI) designs the NI USB-8452 I²C/SPI Interface Device. The USB-8452 device is available with multiple part numbers: Part numbers 781964-01 and 781964-02 are both board only OEM versions of the USB-8452, but part number 781964-01 comes with a 2M USB cable while the other does not. Part number 781964-03 comes with a 2M US cable and a 40-pin flying lead cable. The USB-8452 I²C/SPI Interface Device is a bus-powered portable device that can be used for on-site instruments and electronics applications.
The NI USB 8452 I²C/SPI Interface Device features a high-speed interface with the transfer rate as high as 480 Mb/s. The USB-8452 device contains 8 general-purpose direction-controlled digital I/O lines. These lines can serve as input and/or output channels through software control. The I/O specifications of the DIO lines are different depending upon the logic levels. The NI USB 8452 can be used with a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to achieve high-speed and effective interfacing. On the SPI side, the USB-8452 device can support up to 50 MHz clock rate at a transfer size in the range of 4 – 64 bits. The SPI side has a push-pull type driver output. On the I2C side, the National Instruments USB 8452 I²C/SPI Interface Device can support the clock rate of 3.3 MHz and an open-drain output driver.
The NI USB-8452 device is compatible with USB 2.0 connectivity. The USB 8452 I²C/SPI Interface Device has an input and output voltage range of 4.5 – 5.25 V. In addition, the NI USB-8452 has a maximum input current of 500 mA and a maximum output current of 20 mA. The device is equipped with 1 right angle USB series B receptacle and 1 right angle male IDE cable receptacle I/O connector.
The NI device weighs 2.8 oz, and measures 2.86 x 3.62 x 0.8 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 to 45 °C and –40 to 85 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% RH and 5 to 90% RH respectively.
