National Instruments UMI-4A Universal Motion Interface Accessory

The UMI-4A is a Universal Motion Interface Accessory. The NI UMI-4A is produced by National Instruments. The UMI-4A belongs to the family of universal motion interface (UMI) devices launched by National Instruments. The UMI-4A is a connectivity accessory that is used with motion control boards. The National Instruments UMI-4A is built with four independent axes. The UMI-4A connects NI plug-in motion control boards to power supplies, encoders, servo amplifiers, stepper drivers, limit switches, and motors.

The NI UMI-4A is equipped with a DIN-rail mounting base. This Universal Motion Interface Accessory makes field wiring easier with individual limit switch, encoder, and amplifier/driver removable screw terminal blocks for each axis. These terminal blocks do not involve any special tools for wire installation because they are standard terminal blocks for the industry.

The UMI-4A can be linked to ValueMotion boards with a 50-pin interface cable. Several compatible cables include the SH50-50 shielded cable, NB1 ribbon cable, and SH68-68-S shielded cable and 68M-50F Step Bulkhead Cable Adapter. A 5 V power supply is also required for this Universal Motion Interface Accessory. In addition, an auxiliary power supply can be optionally used.

This Universal Motion Interface Accessory is equipped with a host bus monitor power interlock. This feature automatically disables the amplifiers when the interface cable is disconnected or if the host computer shuts down. There are two I/O connectors on the National Instruments UMI-4A. The first connector is a 34-pin male box header and the other type is two 6-pin removable screw terminal blocks.

UMI-4A Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Universal Motion Interface Accessory will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
