National Instrument USB-6001 Multifunction I/O Device

The USB-6001 (Part Numbers: 782604-01 and 782605-01) is a Multifunction I/O Device from National Instruments that is designed for a wide range of applications including laboratory experiments and industrial systems. The NI USB-6001 comes equipped with two screw-terminal front connections, offering easy connectivity for sensors and/or signals at the input or output channels. Specially designed for portable measurement applications, the USB-6001 I/O Device is bus-powered with a bus speed of 12 Mb/s and is compatible with the USB bus interface. The difference between the two part numbers of the device is that part number 782604-01 is the standard version of the device, while part number 782604-01 is the board only version of the device without an enclosure.

The full-speed NI USB-6001 is equipped with 8 single-ended analog input channels which can be configured as 4 differential channels. In addition, the device features two analog output channels and 13 digital input/output channels. The 32-bit counter included within the USB-6001 is designed to measure edge counters, either rising or falling. Featuring a maximum input frequency of 5 MHz, this counter is sourced from either PF0 or PF1 on the device. 

Two detachable screw terminal connectors are included with the NI USB-6001- one designed for digital transmissions, and the other intended for analog signals. These screw terminal connectors allow the device to easily facilitate up to 16 connections that utilize 0.08 to 1.31 mm2 (28 to 16 AWG).

The NI-DAQmx driver software is included with the NI USB-6001, and it must be installed in order for the device to be configured correctly. It may be programmed using software packages or ADEs like Measurement Studio, LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or SignalExpress. The NI USB-6001 also utilizes the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool to facilitate various application software functions.

Without the screw terminal plugs attached, the NI USB-6001 measures dimensions of 75.4 mm × 86.2 mm × 23.6 mm, (2.97 in. × 3.40 in. × 0.93 in.). When the screw terminal plugs are included, the device measures 93.2 mm × 86.2 mm × 23.6 mm, (3.67 in. ×  3.40 in. × 0.93 in.). The multifunction I/O device weighs 83 g (2.93 oz) without the screw terminal plugs and 105 g (3.70 oz) with them.
