National Instruments SB-MXI Interface Board 

The SB-MXI is an Interface Board. The NI SB-MXI is manufactured by National Instruments. The SB-MXI is part of the VME-SB2020 interface kit. The NI SB-MXI is produced with the part number 181155-01. The National Instruments SB-MXI Board is specially designed for SBus expansion slots. The SB-MXI functions with NI-VXI software for Solaris. This Interface Board can be installed using LabVIEW and LabWindows application software. These two types of software help with functions such as presentation, data acquisition, data analysis, instrument control, and programming. The SB-MXI is compatible with both Solaris 1.x and Solaris 2.x.

The NI SB-MXI is developed as an interface board that assists in connecting any Sun workstation to the VMEbus. The VME-SB2020 forces the Sun to work as if it is an embedded CPU plugged directly into the VME backplane, or as if it has internal VME slots for plug-in VME boards. MXIbus cable connector hoods are a little bit wider than regular connector hoods and could interfere with other cables installed in neighboring SBus slots. It may be helpful to install the SB-MXI in an end slot to avoid dealing with cable connectors of multiple boards. The National Instruments SB-MXI Interface Board requires a 2 m Type M1 MXIbus cable.

The NI SB-MXI is built without any switches or jumpers to configure the hardware. The SB-MXI board is designed with the base address that is prepared by the geographic mechanism available from the SBus. The SB-MXI can be shared with the other SBus board by utilizing the SBus interrupt level-3. The SB-MXI comes with the current measurement of 2.5 A typical and 3.5 A maximum.

SB-MXI Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the board will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
