National Instruments VXI-1394 IEEE 1394 Remote Controller      

The VXI-1394 is an IEEE 1394 Remote Controller manufactured by National Instruments. The NI VXI-1394 is built with the part number 183815-01. The VXI-1394 can also be purchased as a kit. The first version (Part Number: 778118-01) is designed for Windows 2000/XP/Me/98. The second version of the kit (Part Number: 778117-01) is made for Windows NT. These kits also come with a 4.5 m FireWire cable, and a PCI-1394 Interface Board. The VXI-1394 is compatible with NI-VXI and NI-VISA driver software, which can be used for troubleshooting and debugging VXI systems and programming libraries. The NI VXI-1394 performs with the recommended software of LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio.

The NI VXI-1394 links a PCI-based computer to the VXIbus via the IEEE 1394 or FireWire high-speed serial bus. The NI VXI-1394 also has VXI Slot 0 capability, which includes resource manager. The National Instruments VXI-1394 kit enables your computer to perform as if it were plugged into the VXI backplane with the capability of an embedded computer. The VXI-1394 has a maximum throughput of 11 Mbytes/s sustained across the 1394 bus.

The NI VXI-1394 features hot plug-in capability, which means you can add 1394 instruments and configure them without needing to power down your system. Several 1394 instruments can be linked together in a tree topology, although intensifying how complicated the bus topology is can decrease overall system performance. This IEEE 1394 Remote Controller can provide 2-way VXI transfers.

VXI-1394 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the interface will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
