National Instruments VXIpc-871/700 Embedded Computer

The National Instruments VXIpc-871/700 (Part Numbers: 778340-711, 778340-012, 778340-013, 778340-011) is an Embedded, Pentium III based Controller for VXIbus Systems from the VXIpc-870 Series. This model comes equipped with a 700 MHz Pentium III Processor and has multiple PCI-based peripherals. Since it is a VXIplug&play compliant device, the NI VXIpc-871/700 can easily be installed into any VXIbus mainframe. Deploying an embedded PC controller in your VXI chassis allows for direct control of triggers, memory, VXI registers, and interrupts. The SMB connector provided on the front panel of this controller can be configured to drive the CLK10 signal in scenarios where multiple VXI mainframes operate in a tandem arrangement.

The standard features of this device include: a serial port, parallel port, GPIB, USB, Super VGA, 16-bit PC Card, etc. The NI VXIpc-871/700 is offered with 128 MB of RAM in its standard configuration. However, you can enhance the overall capability of your controller by adding more SDRAM SODIMMs just like laptops. This computer is designed to support up to 384 MB of SDRAM. The NI VXIpc-871/700 comes with a CLK10 source and a MODID register. These features make it possible to operate in slot 0 of the chassis.

This Embedded Computer utilizes TNT4882 and PCI MITE ASIC to give full, GPIB based control of external GPIB instruments through a front panel connector. The GPIB interface incorporated in this Embedded Computer is completely compatible with the NI-488.2 driver. Moreover, with HS488 protocol this device can handle transfers at up to 8 Mbytes/s. This Embedded Computer features NI WatchDog – a general-purpose timer that can be used in the monitoring of an application program.   

VXIpc-871/700 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the embedded computer will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
