National Instruments WSN-3231 Serial Interface Node for WSN

The National Instruments WSN-3231 (Part Number: 781977-02) is a 1-Port, Programmable RS485 Serial Interface Node. This Serial Interface Node is capable of wireless transmission and is made for NI Wireless Sensor Networks. The NI WSN-3231 allows you to interface with RS485 supporting serial control boards and instruments, since it comes equipped with a RS485 standard serial port. This Serial Interface Node works on low power and can be operated with field-replaceable, regular AA-size batteries. However, you can also power the WSN-3231 with the help of an external supply. In cases where both power options are available, the Serial Interface Node selects the external power supply to conserve the batteries. This Serial Interface Node supports multiple mounting configurations. You can purchase additional mounting accessories from National Instruments separately. The mounting kits are designed to keep the device in a physical orientation suitable for wireless operations.

The National Instruments WSN-3231 Serial Interface Node supports two modes of operation: node mode and router mode. In node mode, the NI WSN-3231 operates as an end node and transmits the acquired data or information as requested by the wireless gateway and application software. In route mode, the WSN-3231 not only performs its own tasks but operates as a network extender and provides communication routes to let other devices communicate with the network gateway. The wireless characteristics of this Serial Interface Node make it capable of providing 250 Kbps RF data rates. The WSN-3231 Serial Interface Node communicates in IEEE 802.15.4 radio mode and can be deployed to communicate over a range up to 4,000 ft.

WSN-3231 Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the serial interface node will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
