National Instruments PXIe-6378 PXI Multifunction I/O Module

The PXIe-6378 (Part Number: 781476-01) from National Instruments is a Multifunction I/O Module from the X Series. This high-performance device is equipped with 16 analog input channels, 4 analog output channels, and 48 digital I/O channels. This versatile Multifunction I/O Module utilizes RTSI bus cables to connect associated timing and synchronization signals between PCI/PCI Express devices, such as X Series modules. The analog input of the NI PXIe-6378 is equipped with 16 bits of ADC resolution, resulting in incredible accuracy for measurements. The sample rate of the I/O module has no minimum, and it reaches a maximum rate of 3.571 MS/s for a single channel. 

There are 4 general-purpose counter/timers included with the NI PXIe-6378 I/O Module, each with a resolution of 32 bits. These counters are capable of measuring two edge separation, pulse width, pulse, edge counting, period, and semi-period. Boasting a FIFO size of 127 samples per counter, the PXIe-6378 offers plenty of space for different applications. In addition, each counter has it’s own scatter-gather DMA controller for transferring data. 

The bus interface of the NI PXIe-6378 has a x1 PXIe peripheral module form factor, and it is compatible with x1 and x4 PXIe or PXIe Hybrid slots. The 8 DMA channels of the module are useful for analog and digital input and output, as well as applications for each of the counter/timers. The power required by the NI PXIe-6378 depends on the voltage. For a voltage rail of +3.3 V, the module requires 8.2 W of power. For a voltage rail of +12 V, 21.8 W of power are required. 

National Instruments recommends that the PXIe-6378 be calibrated every 2 years in order to maintain accuracy and reliability. The dimensions of the printed circuit board are the same as a standard 3U PXI module, and the device features 2 68-pin VHDCI connectors. The NI PXIe-6378 weighs 241 g (8.5 oz).
